Practice Education Award
The 2021 competition is closed
The Practice Education Award honours an individual or healthcare team that provides outstanding interprofessional collaborative patient-centred education* in the practice setting for UBC pre-entry to practice-level students.
The award is valued at $1,000 and will be presented to an individual or healthcare team in a practice setting.
*Interprofessional collaborative patient-centred education promotes the active participation of each healthcare discipline in patient care and fosters respect for disciplinary contributions made by all professions. It enhances patient- and family-centred goals and values and provides mechanisms for continuous communication and collaborative decision-making among caregivers and their families.
- The nominee can be an individual health professional or educator (preceptor), or an established team of health professionals and/or preceptors from any environment that educates UBC students.
- The nominated individual or team is recognized by others for their ability to role model and teach interprofessional competencies to UBC students at the pre-entry to practice level.
- The activities forming the basis for the nomination must demonstrate ongoing interprofessional clinical education opportunities that implement collaborative practice** and/or teaching strategies that involve UBC students.
**Collaborative practice is the process of developing and maintaining effective interprofessional working relationships with students, practitioners, patients, and families to enable optimal health outcomes. The elements of collaboration are respect, trust, shared decision-making, and partnerships.
The UBC Health Practice Education Network (PEN) is composed of UBC faculty, administrators, and staff from across the health disciplines at UBC who support practice education. PEN provides a venue to recognize excellence in practice education and collaborative practice.
Members of PEN and others are invited to nominate an individual or team that provides exemplary interdisciplinary learning to students while on placement. To make a nomination, please complete the nomination form by November 30, 2021.
Nominated individuals or teams will then be emailed a short form to complete by December 15, 2021. Nominees will be asked to outline their contributions towards interprofessional collaborative patient-centred education in the practice setting, including specific examples.
The award recipient will be selected by the UBC Health Awards Committee, which is composed of UBC faculty members, students, and public members from the health community.
By accepting the award, the recipient consents to having their name published in UBC Health communications.
